Song for your Sunday: Trials of the Past (feat. Sampha) by SBTRKT

In high school, my most favorite moments involved ‘The Format’ in some way or another, whether it be playing in the background or our own awful rendition. In my early college days I often found solace in listening to ‘The Format’ as they were also from Arizona and that somehow seemed to ease my homesickness. So you can imagine the devastation and heartbreak I felt upon hearing they were no longer a band. I immediately went online and purchased any Format paraphernalia I could get my hands on and cried while forcing my new friends to watch their DVD until they couldn’t stand it any longer. Thankfully, lead singer Nate Reuss started his own project ‘Fun.’ that allowed me to linger just a moment longer in my high school glory days.

Fun may sound familiar to any other Fomat fans, having similar themes and melodies. Reuss collaborated with Andrew Dost of ‘Anathallo’ (another one of my high school faves) as well as Jack Antonoff of ‘Steel Train.’ I was pleasantly surprised that Reuss played some of his old Format hits at a Fun show, but was happy to see him flourish in his new ventures.

This may be too soon to watch for those of you who are still recovering from your new year’s revelry, but here I present you with Fun’s “We are Young”

I love Robyn parodies about as much as I love Robyn herself- this video is PERFECTION

Just to emphasize my last post.

M83- Midnight City performing on Carson Daly

This has got to be the most adorable interview I’ve ever seen. Anthony Gonzalez shares his inspiration behind ‘Midnight City” on his newest album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’  I love his vulnerability and willingness to share about the difficulties of moving to Los Angeles and his nostalgic childhood feelings. And I probably don’t need to point out the adorableness of his accent, but please, take note.

I was fortunate enough to see him perform in Los Angeles just a few weeks ago and was blown away by his performance, I might even go as far to say it was one of the top 3 shows I’ve ever been to. This album definitely get my vote for best of the year. If you haven’t seen them live yet, you must add it to your 2012 bucket list!

I award this song my favorite holiday tune. I love the merriment of this video and the sweet & sultry tone of voice combination.

The Royal Sons (Feat. Mariah McManus)- Baby It’s Cold Outside

If you’re a Los Angeles resident, check out Mariah McManus tonight at Hotel Cafe!

This music video is just as beautiful as the song. I love where this kid’s imagination takes him. I will be channeling this same dissociative technique as I cram for finals while I keep this song on repeat, hoping I magically end up in whatever fantasy world this kid appears in.

Bon Iver- Holocene

Oooh, how I love these Alexander McQueen videos.
