The Ballad

“The Ballad” by New Look is currently being added to my list of favorites. It probably seems like any song I listen to lately is MY FAVORITE, but that’s just cause lately I refuse to listen to anything but the best. Therefore, this song qualifies. I think The FADER describes this song best:

“On “The Ballad,” New Look sing through a six-minute breakup. It sounds like the way you watch yourself in the mirror when it’s all going down, and it makes it twice as hard to swallow because the real you is really hearing it and your reflection just looks like a sucker, and you only want to make popcorn and watch Mad About You together. When the beat kicks in, Sarah Ruba sings, This is the part when everybody says I love you so/ You know I love you so. Dying at our desks, hope nobody notices.”

My first thought was Ugh six-minute breakup, that sounds miserable, but then my emo side came alive and I wanted to thrive in the Canadian duo’s misery, which ended up being a great decision. I love the simple synths of this song as the main focus becomes singer Sarah Ruba’s voice and heartbreaking lyrics. This song is for the broken-hearted, if that has ever been you check it out
